Intel Shutdown RP operations
This is another bad day for the Manufacturing Sector specifically the Semicon & Electronics Industry in the Philippines. I remember in December 7, 1997 where more than 25,000 employees of Intel Philippines trooped to the Enchanted Kingdom to celebrate their Annual Christmas Party. Wow,they are so many, & the Intel Company treats their Employees very well in their Enchanted Kingdom Christmas Party.
The Enchanted was closed to the Public on that day to cater solely to Intel Philippines Employees & their families. I remember that day very much since i worked in Enchanted at that season before as a service crew in one of their Food Kiosks near the Anchor's Away. A month before, I was Kick-out (Dismissed in calm words) from UPLB due to 2 consecutive poor semesters, so i have no money & also would like to experience working.
There will be 25,000 people who have their "Free BreakFast Stamp" courtesy of course of their rich employer Intel Philippines, so the Enchanted Kingdom needs to prepare 25,000 Breakfast Combo. I remember you can choose, Chicken combo, or Hotdog Combo, & other combo with fries & softdrinks.
In that day, as early as 10pm of December 6, 1997, I was already cooking Hotdogs for the Intel Employees Breakfast. I think I was given a quota of about 1000 hotdog sandwiches to cook! I have a buddy there to help me put the Hotdogs to the sandwiches so mathematically it can be done. Enchanted has about 15 Small Food Kiosks around the Park, & about 3 big Restaurants so it is really capable of doing so. but the crew like me also work very hard on the day of Dec. 6, so we have just some few hours to rest, & then start working at 10pm to prepare tomorrow's breakfast.
Since our kiosks was given a quota of 1000pcs Hotdog Sandwiches, & i have about 10hours to prepare, so i need to at least fry 100pcs per hour. You can easily fry 100 pcs hotdog in a large frier, but our frier in our kiosks is just small, maybe can accomodate 8 to10 hotdogs at time. Also, you need to store them in proper place & doing all stuffs like cleaning & preparing the buns, so its really hard work. After maybe about 9 to 10 hours, wow, we have prepared so many hotdogs so can think of, but i think i was just abled to fry 800 hotdogs, as i am very tired & need to of course clean yourself before 8am. You can't face the customers with your if your not clean looking right? hehe.
Nevertheless, maybe all things must come to an end. Based from my impressions before, Intel Employees are very Proud. Who will not, Intel is a very good Employer. Intel Philippines will cease operations, & employeess will be laid-off. Personally, i don't buy Intel CPU, because I prefer AMD since I am into Games. But, its really sad to see a big Factory stopping operations. But in the news, the facilities will be transferred to another Giant company, so we hope the laid-off workers will be eventually rehired.

MANILA, Philippines – Intel has announced to employees its plan to shut down its more than two-decade-old test-and-assembly facility in the Philippines.
The company made the announcement via email sent to employees around 10 a.m. Wednesday, several sources confirmed with INQUIRER.net.
INQUIRER.net also tried to contact Intel officials and its local PR agency but they were not ready to give any official statement at the time of this writing.
According to sources, the announcement was half-expected as Intel announced its first batch of lay-offs in November last year.
The rest of the employees were informed about succeeding "phases" in layoffs and that they will get their separation packages in three months' time.
Since then, Intel's local office has also conducted job fairs and education seminars, such as starting small businesses.
This morning's email confirmed the eventual shutdown, although there was no definite timeline indicated when exactly Intel's facility in General Trias, Cavite will close.
Intel's manufacturing facility still employs some 3,000 workers.
Intel is also reportedly shutting down at least three more facilities in other countries aside from the Philippines due to weakened demand brought about by the current global economic downturn.
The US-based chipmaker set up its manufacturing facility in Makati City in 1974, then transferred in Cavite.
Last year, Intel announced a joint venture, called Numonyx, with Switzerland-based STMicroelectronics. The Cavite facility handles flash memory manufacturing.
In Asia Pacific, Intel is widely believed to be consolidating its investments in China and Vietnam.
